  6. This is version 3.0.4 of MandelZot, a free (but not public-domain)
  7. application for exploring the Mandelbrot set and other fractals.
  8.  
  9. The biggest enhancement since version 3.0.2 (June '91) is the addition
  10. of a Lempel-Ziv data compressor.  This compressor can be used to reduce
  11. the size of MandelZot dwell-save files... the data is compressed when
  12. it's saved, and is expanded (losslessly) when the file is opened and
  13. loaded.  Savings of 50% are common, and I've seen a few images which
  14. compressed by 75-90%.  The compression isn't as effective as that in
  15. StuffIt or Compactor, but it's fast and does not require an additional
  16. step.  Compressed-dwell files can be cataloged normally, and can be
  17. used by older versions of MandelZot (which will ignore the compressed
  18. data and recompute the image).

  20. Other tweaks in 3.0.4 include some bug-fixes, and some rearrangements
  21. in the Color Editor to improve compatibility with the Mac LC and IIsi.
